1. Operating software - Part 1

  • Make sure that your Mr Beam has already been upgraded to BeamOS 2.
Attention: If necessary, carefully follow the upgrade instructions in this article to avoid errors and subsequent damage to property.
  • Make sure you have the latest update of BeamOS 2 (Settings > Software Update > Check for updates now).
  • Then switch to Rotary mode (your Mr Beam usually recognises the installed Rotary on its own).
Note: Make sure you already have a current corner calibration. If you want to perform this, it must be done in Normal Mode.

  • Home the laser head. When homing in Rotary mode, the laser head first moves to the standard home position to orientate itself, but then moves forwards again a little so that the Rotary is in the centre of the working area. This ensures that you get a suitable preview image.

2. Adjusting the position of the rollers

  • Move the drive rollers and support rollers to suitable positions in the X direction to hold your object. The centre of the engraving should be approximately in the middle of the work surface to ensure a more accurate preview.
Note: Both pairs of rollers should be in contact with the straightest possible surfaces of the object to ensure a reliable result.

Note: The surface to be lasered should rest on the drive rollers. In addition, as much weight as possible should rest on the drive rollers for the best results.

3. Insert object fixations

  • Place the object fixation with the thin side of the holder between the two lower metal bars of the Rotary.
  • Turn the object fixation 90° to secure it.
Note: The object fixations can be moved along the X-axis by turning them slightly to the right and left. This allows you to position them more precisely on your object.

4. Set diameter

  • Use the enclosed screwdriver to adjust the adjustment screws under the support rollers.
Note: Always lift the object to adjust the diameter in order to protect the mechanics of the system.

  • Adjust the rollers so that the centre of the object is approximately at the standard setting of the object fixation. The diameter is now set correctly.
Note: If your object does not have a fixed centre (e.g. the top of a cup), you can move the magnet of the object fixation downwards so that it rests against the edge of the object. However, set the diameter to the centre of the object.

  • Then finally place your object in the rotary and attach the object fixations (see 3. Inserting object fixations).

5. Operating software - Part 2

  • Set the diameter of your object in the software.
    • It is not possible to engrave diameters of less than 10 mm.
    • Diameters of 10-15 mm have a limited engraving quality.
    • Diameters of 70-100 mm cannot be engraved with a complete 360° engraving.
    • It is not possible to engrave diameters over 100 mm.
  • Load your design into the software or create it with the Quickshape functions.
    • Place your design so that it is centred approximately on the 0° line to ensure the accuracy of the preview.
    • If your design protrudes beyond the two 180° lines, the object will rotate completely more than once. Designs may overlap under certain circumstances.
    • Your design must not protrude into the white areas. The Rotary cannot move in these areas as it would otherwise hit the wall.

6. Focussing the laserhead and lasering

Move the laser head as usual to the position of your material by double-tapping on the work surface. In Rotary Mode, your laser head will only move from side to side to ensure that your object doesn't move.

6.1 Rough Focussing

Place the focussing plate on the screw heads of the angled laser head holder using the recesses provided. Use the highest setting for large diameters or the lowest setting for small diameters.

6.2 Fine focussing

  • As with the standard laser head holder, loosen the screw for fastening the laser head.
  • Position the focussing tool from the side at the height of the laser beam exit so that you focus on the correct point.
  • Slide the laser head downwards until it rests on the focussing tool.
  • Then tighten the screw again.

6.3 Start laserjob

  • Click on Laser, select your material and then click on Start.
  • Then press the button on your Mr Beam to start the laser job.
